"A Mobile Vet Makes A Happy Pet!"

Dr MacKenzie has been offering in-home End of Life services on the North Shore for over 10 years. Our services and costs are listed below. You can visit our website Pets at Peace for additional resources, testimonials and more.
End of Life Consultation

Many owners simply need to talk with a professional before making any final decisions. We welcome open communication about your needs and wishes. Our goal is to make you aware of all your options. We want you to be comfortable with whatever decision you choose. Quality of life phone consults with the doctor are 30 minutes long and cost $100. If you need more time than this, you will need to schedule an end of life in- home consultation. Please keep in mind that phone/email consults are strictly to discuss quality of life, not medical treatment or medication options. In order to discuss medications, illnesses and treatments, we will need to have a current VCPR (veterinarian-client-patient relationship). We can also come to your home for a consultation so we can properly assess your pet and the situation (establishing a VCPR). The cost for the End of Life Consultation is $480.00. At the majority of these consultations, the owner will decide to euthanize. If we move forward with euthanasia at this appointment, we do not charge an additional fee unless after care is requested.
Euthanasia
The euthanasia process includes a discussion of your pets situation and family needs, an exam (if the doctor feels it is appropriate), an injection of a sedative, and then euthanasia. When you are ready, our doctor will sedate your pet to relax them. Once the medication takes affect (roughly 10-20 minutes), the euthanasia solution is injected. This injection will first put your pet into an anesthetic state, then it will cause the heart to slow down until it stops. It is generally a very quick and peaceful process. The cost is $480.00 ( There is an additional charge for aggressive pets and for dogs over 100lbs). This includes the consultation, doctor’s travel time, sedation and euthanasia but does not include aftercare/transport or memorial products.

Alternative After Care Options
If you wish to have a more personal interaction with the crematorium and/or wish to be present for cremation, we recommend
Rainbow's End Pet Crematorium in Danvers, MA. Please contact them directly for more information.

Another option is Aquamation which is the gentle process of using water instead of fire to return a body back to Mother Nature. If this is an option you are interested in, we recommend Petrichor Aquamation in Woburn, MA
